Next stop... Berlin...

To cap off our summer we took a quick trip to Berlin, Germany. Not a whole lotta expectations from this trip, just a quick last minute getaway. Well..what a nice surprise it was to see this great city. It was a 7 1/2 hour drive...of course longer with the stops for lunch, gas and bathrooms. But what a great time we had! To our surprise, there was a music festival getting ready to happen..though we missed the actual festival, the city preparation gave the city a great vibe! On the way to Berlin, Brad briefed me on the historical aspects of Germany relating to the Berlin wall...good thing because I never really paid that much attention in history class when I was younger (sad, I know)... So I imagined that the city would be gloomy with a ton of history beaming at you....and it's not! You have some sites with signs/pictures stating the significance of the city...and there are pieces of the Berlin wall to visit, but this city felt very young and hip for Europe. We loved it! It was so easy to navigate in spite of the language barrier as we rode the city bus around town. Note to self..when you see a bus sign that says, "hier endet' ..the words look like 'ends here' and also means 'ends here'...so you will not be able to board a bus there...hehe...

So here is a bit of our fun albeit short trip which included a couple of trips to Dunkin Doughnuts, German Beer, and a lot of schnitzel! (which the kiddos LOVED)

Music Festival

because no trip is complete without a carriage ride though the city...the lady let the girls sit up front with her and explained how to 'drive' the horses.

We climbed 284 steps to the top of the The Französischer Dom (French Cathedral) (which has a twin Cathedral known as the German Cathedral) to get an amazing view of the open market square.
